lnternational Outreach: Satelligence
The problem
Other One’s client Satelligence provides satellite-powered deforestation monitoring tools to help companies that sell agricultural commodities (or products that contain them) eliminate deforestation from their supply chains.
Satelligence is based in the Netherlands, which isn’t known for its rainforests, savannahs, or tropical landscapes. In order for them to best promote their services, they had to meet traders and suppliers where they were, in Indonesia, Argentina, and other countries where commodities are grown.
A lot of Satelligence’s prospects are based in Indonesia (for palm oil) and Argentina (for soy) where Satelligence’s satellite monitoring and sustainable supply chain management tools are less known. Getting coverage for Satelligence’s services in the local agricultural press would be invaluable for Satelligence’s localised market development.
Penetrating a foreign media market where a company may have no contacts and very little profile is no small task.
The solution
Other One used trusted local organisations with good journalist contacts in Satelligence’s sector. They researched local news and events in Satelligence’s area of interest, government initiatives and anything else of note.
As journalists love original data, Other One encouraged Satelligence to produce data about deforestation in the Gran Chaco region, and on the reduction of deforestation in Indonesia’s palm oil sector.
The data that Satelligence produced showed that the palm oil sector had significantly reduced its deforestation footprint. They were also able to provide fresh insights into deforestation in the Gran Chaco region, a significant but lesser known biome that’s often overshadowed by the Amazon.
In order to maximise the impact of this press push, Satelligence arranged in-person trips to business conferences in Indonesia and Argentina, that were timed to coincide with content releases. In Indonesia, a media gathering was held, attended in person by Satelligence, where Other One’s press release was presented to local journalists covering commodities, agriculture and deforestation. The same strategy was followed for Argentina.
The result
Satelligence was published across major news outlets, including Republika (12.2 million visitors per month), Liputan 6 (48.9 million visitors in month of publication), and Kontan (23.4 million visitors in month of publication). In Argentina, Satelligence was picked up by twenty-three outlets including abc, and Infobae, got a spread in La Nacion newspaper, and was also featured on Brazilian agricultural news TV outlet, Agromais.
A 2nd article covering Satelligence in Indonesia was published in Kontan, Media Indonesia, and Warta Ekonomi.
